Sharna Hussain, Psychologist

Sharna Hussain   (BA, GradDipPsych, MAPsych)

Sharna is a registered psychologist  and a somatic psychotherapist.

She has training in advanced trauma treatment techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Havening, Transpersonal Psychology and Holotropic Breathwork training.

Sharna utilises principles of nonduality, Buddhist psychology and astrology.

Her somatic-transpersonal orientation aims to support individuals whose quest is not merely to suppress symptoms, but to move towards transcendence, wholeness and self-realisation. From the transpersonal perspective, the manifestation of symptoms are often best understood as marking the beginning of the healing process rather than the beginning of a disease or disorder. This is because the presenting symptom is often an attempt of the psyche to free itself from traumatic imprints and conditioning.

Another important assumption belonging to the transpersonal school is that the belief that the answer lies within the client. And we are not just speaking in symbolic terms – embedded in one’s own psyche is a complex system for transforming consciousness and bringing the nervous system back to cohesion.

From this perspective the therapist is merely there to provide support, a safe setting, and guidance for the emergence of one’s own inner healing intelligence. This type of therapeutic work is more experiential rather than intellectual.
