Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a gentle form of bodywork in which subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue to send messages into the nervous system.

Even though this work is subtle, it can have powerful results, even after one session.

Because it addresses the causes of issues, however, for long standing problems improvement may take several sessions.

During your session, the practitioner will use their hands to make gentle corrections to the tissues and then there will be a pause between each correction. During these pauses, the body becomes relaxed, and begins to return to balance and wellbeing. These subtle moves can impact the muscles, connective tissue, organs, hormonal system and the nervous system. Because of this, Bowen therapy can be effective in treating a wide range of ailments, not just muscle and joint issues.

Bowen therapy is also a great supportive treatment for people with chronic illness such as MS, Parkinsons or CP.

So that you can plan for your treatment, please note that after a Bowen therapy session it is important not to have any other physical treatments for 5 days. Doing so can interfere with this subtle work. It’s also recommended not to have very hot or cold showers or baths, use ice or heat packs, and to avoid sitting for long periods without breaks. Hydration and walking at least 20min a day during the course of your Bowen therapy is also very important to get the best out of your sessions.

You may experience reactions from your Bowen session like hot and cold flushes, emotional releases, headaches and body aches. These reactions are common; they often indicate that the healing process has begun.
