Counselling affords a safe place for you to explore and express your issues, concerns and fears, whether past or present. Through open discussion of what’s troubling you, clarity can be achieved and appropriate solutions begin to present themselves. Counselling at The Urban Alchemist is offered by our team of Psychologists, Mental Health Occupational Therapists and Trauma-Informed Bodyworkers.
Mental Health Occupational Therapy (OT)
Counselling with our Mental Health OT attracts rebates under the Medicare Better Access program, just the same way seeing a Psychologist does.
A Mental Health Occupational Therapist works similarly to a Psychologist, with a few key differences. Mental Health Occupational Therapy attracts a Medicare rebate just the same way Psychology does. You can ask your GP for up to ten session per year.
Mental Health OT is a client-centred approach, where attention is paid to how your mental health is impacting your life right now. Important questions will be considered, for example
- Can I care for myself in ways that nourish me?
- Is my physical health being impacted by my psychological health, or by my coping strategies?
- Can I find and maintain stable and meaningful employment?
- Am I confident to carry out my role as a friend/partner/son/child/employee/community member/neighbour?
- Can I find purpose and joy in aspects of my life?
Your therapist will help direct you to appropriate, practical solutions. This means that you can start implementing small changes quickly, which can make for an improved quality of life right away.
What do Counselling and Psychotherapy help with?
Counselling may be used to address a wide range of issues including:
- Relationship issues
- Grief and loss
- Self-esteem issues
- Traumatic injury & other physical disabilities
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- LGBTIQ mental health & wellbeing
- Women’s specific issues
Through Counselling, a client develops greater self-awareness of their emotions, thoughts, strengths and supports. In so doing, the client feels an improvement in their overall wellbeing and connection with others.
What is Psychotherapy?
For brave souls with a burning desire to understand what makes them tick, Psychotherapy is an in-depth journey of self-discovery. Have you ever wondered why you are the way you are? Psychotherapy can help you uncover the answers, with the goal of helping you recognise what it is you need in order to thrive and reach your potential.
