There are 78 cards in a Tarot deck. There are four suits, but instead of diamonds and hearts and clubs and spades, there are wands, swords, pentacles, and cups. This is the Minor Arcana.
The cards with specific labels, such as The Fool, The Lovers, The Wheel of Fortune, or Death are the Major Arcana.
Tarot reading has a bit of a bad reputation, because these cards sound so ominous. OF COURSE you would think you’re probably going to die soon if a card is pulled for you that says ‘DEATH’ in big bold writing!
But never fear…it’s how the cards are pulled and the way in which they’re spread that creates a unique message for you, which will be interpreted by your reader. Each card has its own meaning, but the real story happens when you see how the cards interact. Once some messages start popping up, you will likely start to make the connections and ask deeper questions. They’re just like dreams – they hardly ever mean what you think they do on face value.
A reading is never an absolute or set-in-stone answer, because of our free will and ability to change whatever situation we have found ourselves in. We look to the cards for guidance, not for answers.
Ideally, you will walk away from a Tarot reading with a sense of hope, purpose, or clarity. The cards may not always say what you are wanting to hear, but, they will help you to realise your direction or a plan.
