I was carrying around chronic pain that I thought I would never get rid of. I’m managing to stay pain-free through the week now and I’m over the moon!

Tracy, the owner, is nothing less than a wizard! I can easily understand why this place is called “The Alchemist” 🪄✨ From the moment I stepped into this beautiful clinic, I felt I’m in good hands. Highly recommended! 🙌🏾

She was caring, knowledgeable, and took the time to understand what I was going through... also recommended a follow-up with myotherapy, which I really appreciated as it showed how thorough she is in her approach.
-C.L.
A safe space to come in whatever state I am in. I’ve been held when moving through rough times but I’ve also had times where I can’t stop laughing... All the practitioners have been next level. The best of the best work here.

Holistic GP in Carlton North
Integrative medical care that takes the time to understand the whole picture.
Whole-person healthcare that starts by listening.
Have you ever left a doctor’s appointment wishing there had been just a little more time?
Perhaps you had more questions you wanted to ask, felt like your symptoms weren’t fully explored, or were left wondering how everything fits together. When you’re living with ongoing health concerns or trying to make sense of complex symptoms, feeling heard can be just as important as finding the right treatment.
At The Urban Alchemist, our holistic GP provides integrative medical care that combines evidence-informed medicine with a whole-person approach. We take the time to understand not only your symptoms, but also your medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress and overall wellbeing to develop a personalised plan that supports your long-term health.
Whether you’re seeking support for a chronic health condition, preventative healthcare, digestive concerns, fatigue, hormone health, men’s or women’s health, or simply want a GP who takes the time to listen, we’re here to help you better understand your health and make informed decisions about your care.
Is this the right service for you?
Our holistic GP service is designed for people seeking a more comprehensive, integrative approach to health. If you’re looking for longer consultations to explore complex or ongoing health concerns, this service may be a good fit.
If you need routine repeat prescriptions, Mental Health Care Plans, vaccinations or other standard general practice services, you’ll generally be better served by your regular GP. Many of our patients choose to see both, using Dr Firas for integrative health support while continuing routine medical care with their family doctor.
Longer consultations. Personalised care. A whole-person approach.
Why Choose a Holistic GP?
Many health concerns don’t fit neatly into a single symptom or a standard consultation.
If you’ve been living with ongoing fatigue, digestive issues, persistent pain, hormonal changes, stress-related illness or other complex health concerns, you may be looking for more than a quick prescription or a brief conversation. You may simply want the opportunity to explore what’s happening with someone who has the time to listen.
A holistic GP combines conventional medical care with a broader understanding of the many factors that influence health. Alongside your symptoms, we consider your medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships and environment to develop a management plan that’s tailored to your individual circumstances.
This doesn’t mean replacing conventional medicine—it means working alongside it. Investigations, testing and specialist referrals remain an important part of medical care when they’re appropriate. Our role is to bring those pieces together, helping you understand the bigger picture and supporting you in making informed decisions about your health.
Rather than focusing on a single symptom in isolation, we aim to understand how different aspects of your health may interact and what steps are most likely to support your long-term wellbeing.
What Makes Our Approach Different?
✔ Longer consultations that allow time to explore your concerns thoroughly.
✔ Evidence-informed integrative medicine driven from a whole-person perspective.
✔ Personalised management plans tailored to your health, lifestyle and goals.
✔ A collaborative approach that supports informed decision-making.
✔ Consideration of nutrition, sleep, stress and other lifestyle factors where relevant.
✔ Coordination with specialists and other healthcare providers when appropriate.
✔ A focus on prevention, education and sustainable long-term health.
Medicare rebates are not available for initial GP telehealth appointments. Your first appointment must be attended in person at the clinic. After your initial consultation, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on telehealth appointments.
**Please note, initial consultation must be in person in order for subsequent telehealth appointments to be eligible for Medicare rebates**
Looking for a GP who takes the time to understand the whole picture?
Whether you’re managing a long-term health condition, looking for preventative care or simply want a more personalised approach to your healthcare, we’re here to help.
Holistic medicine is practised by a fully qualified medical doctor who combines evidence-informed medicine with a whole-person approach to healthcare. Rather than focusing only on a single symptom, an integrative doctor considers your medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, environment and overall wellbeing to develop a personalised management plan.
At The Urban Alchemist, our integrative medical doctor provides integrative medical care that works alongside conventional medicine to help you better understand your health and make informed decisions about your treatment.
What’s the difference between an integrative medical doctor and a regular GP?
Both are fully qualified medical doctors. The difference lies in the focus of the consultation.
A traditional GP provides broad primary healthcare, including diagnosis and treatment of acute illness, routine prescriptions, referrals, vaccinations, Mental Health Care Plans and ongoing general medical care.
Our integrative medical doctor has chosen to focus on a different area of practice. Consultations are longer and designed for people seeking support with complex or ongoing health concerns through a whole-person, integrative approach. Rather than routine prescribing, appointments focus on understanding your health in greater depth by considering your medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress and other factors that may be influencing your wellbeing. Where appropriate, this may also include functional testing and evidence-informed nutritional or lifestyle strategies.
Many of our patients continue to see their regular GP for routine medical care while working with a holistic GP for a more in-depth, integrative approach to their long-term health. This allows each doctor to focus on their area of expertise and ensures you receive comprehensive, coordinated care.
Why are your appointments longer?
Many health concerns can’t be fully explored in a standard consultation.
Longer appointments allow time to understand your health history, discuss your symptoms thoroughly, answer your questions and develop a personalised management plan together. We believe taking the time to listen is one of the most valuable parts of good healthcare.
What conditions do you commonly help with?
People see our integrative medicine practitioner for a wide variety of health concerns, including:
Chronic and complex health conditions
Fatigue
Digestive concerns
Women’s health
Men’s health
Hormonal health
Stress-related health concerns
Preventive healthcare
Every person is different, so your care is tailored to your individual health needs and goals.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate?
Yes.
Our integrative medicine consultations attract a Medicare rebate where eligible. As with all GP services, any out-of-pocket costs will depend on the type and length of your appointment.
Can I book a telehealth appointment?
Yes, telehealth appointments are available for suitable consultations.
Please note that Medicare eligibility for telehealth consultations depends on current Medicare requirements. If you’re a new patient, you must attend an initial appointment in person before claiming Medicare rebates for telehealth consultations.
Will you recommend supplements or functional testing?
Only when they’re considered appropriate for your individual circumstances.
Your doctor will discuss any recommended investigations or treatment options with you, explain why they’re being suggested and help you decide what is most appropriate for your situation.
Are functional tests covered by Medicare?
It depends on the type of testing.
Many standard blood tests requested by our holistic medical practitioner may be eligible for a Medicare rebate when they meet the relevant Medicare criteria. These tests can often be performed at a bulk-billing pathology provider, meaning there may be little or no out-of-pocket cost.
Some of the more specialised functional tests we use are performed by private laboratories and are not covered by Medicare. These tests may provide additional information in specific clinical situations and are only recommended when they are likely to be helpful in guiding your care.
The cost of private functional testing varies depending on the type of test being performed but is typically between $100 and $500. If our integrative doctor recommends a test, they will explain why they believe it may be beneficial, discuss the expected costs with you, and help you decide whether it is appropriate for your circumstances.
There is never any obligation to proceed with functional testing. Any recommendations are discussed with you so you can make an informed decision about your healthcare.
Will you work with my other healthcare providers?
Yes.
With your consent, we’re happy to communicate with your specialist, psychologist, allied health practitioner or other healthcare providers to help ensure your care is well coordinated.
As part of our multidisciplinary clinic, we can also work collaboratively with other practitioners within The Urban Alchemist when this is appropriate and aligned with your goals.
Do I need to stop seeing my regular GP?
Not at all.
Most of our clients continue seeing their regular GP for certain aspects of their healthcare. This is entirely your choice, and we’re happy to work collaboratively where appropriate.
Is an integrative medical doctor right for me?
If you’ve been looking for a doctor who takes the time to listen, explores the bigger picture and works with you to develop a personalised management plan, an integrative medicine doctor may be a good fit.
Whether you’re managing a complex health condition, looking for preventive healthcare or simply want a more thorough and personalised consultation, we’re here to help you better understand your health and support your long-term wellbeing.
Does your integrative doctor prescribe medications or provide routine GP services?
Dr Firas’ practice is intentionally focused on integrative medical care rather than routine general practice.
His consultations are designed for people seeking a comprehensive, whole-person approach to understanding and managing complex or ongoing health concerns. As part of this approach, he focuses on detailed assessment, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, functional testing (where appropriate) and evidence-informed natural therapies.
If you require routine prescriptions, repeat medications, Mental Health Care Plans, vaccinations, medical certificates or other standard general practice services, we recommend continuing with your regular GP. Many of our patients choose to see Dr Firas alongside their family doctor, allowing each practitioner to focus on their area of expertise.
If you’re unsure whether an integrative medical consultation is the right fit for your needs, our reception team is happy to help guide you before you book.
Is your integrative medicine doctor a replacement for my regular GP?
Not necessarily.
Many of our patients continue to see their regular GP for routine healthcare, prescriptions, vaccinations, mental health care plans, referrals and other aspects of general practice.
Our holistic GP has a particular interest in integrative medicine and supporting people with complex or ongoing health concerns through longer consultations and a whole-person approach. Many patients choose to see Dr Firas alongside their regular GP, allowing each doctor to focus on their area of expertise.
Do you only treat symptoms?
Our aim is not only to help manage your current symptoms, but also to better understand the factors that may be contributing to your health concerns.
This may include considering your medical history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, environmental factors and other aspects of your overall wellbeing. By looking at the broader picture, we can work with you to develop a personalised plan that supports both your immediate health concerns and your long-term wellbeing.
Do you work with other practitioners?
Yes.
One of the unique benefits of The Urban Alchemist is our multidisciplinary approach. When appropriate, your GP may recommend working alongside other practitioners within the clinic, such as psychologists, chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists or naturopaths, to provide coordinated care that reflects your individual needs and goals.
Any recommendations are always made collaboratively and only when they are likely to benefit your care.
What is the goal of your approach to healthcare?
Our goal is to help you better understand your health, make informed decisions about your care and feel confident managing your wellbeing over the long term.
We believe the best healthcare empowers people through education, clear communication and personalised support. While medications and ongoing treatment are important and appropriate for many conditions, we also aim to equip you with practical strategies that help you take an active role in your own health wherever possible.
