Past Life Regression in Carlton North, Melbourne
Maybe It’s a Past Life. Maybe It’s Your Imagination. Either Way, Something Interesting Might Be Down There.
Have you ever met someone and felt as though you’ve known them forever?
Found yourself strangely drawn to a particular place, culture or period in history?
Had a fear that feels oddly specific?
Repeated a relationship pattern and wondered why this particular dynamic seems to have you in a chokehold?
Or perhaps you’ve simply wondered:
Have I been here before?
Past Life Regression is a guided hypnotic and imaginative process that invites you to explore experiences, images, emotions and stories that may arise when your attention turns inward.
Within spiritual traditions that accept reincarnation, these experiences may be understood as memories of previous lives.
Other people understand them as symbolic material, imagination, unconscious associations or stories created by the mind.
We don’t need to settle one of humanity’s larger metaphysical questions before you book.
You can explore what arises and decide what it means to you.

What Is Past Life Regression?
Past Life Regression is a guided process, often using hypnosis or deep relaxation, in which you’re invited to allow images, sensations, emotions, memories or narratives to arise spontaneously.
You may find yourself imagining:
A place.
A body.
A relationship.
A particular period in history.
An event.
A death.
A family.
A landscape.
Or an entire story that seems to arrive from somewhere you weren’t consciously constructing.
Within reincarnation-based spiritual traditions, experiences like these may be interpreted as memories from previous incarnations.
Psychology offers other possible explanations, including imagination, suggestion, symbolic storytelling and the mind’s extraordinary ability to construct vivid experiences.
We don’t claim to know which explanation applies.
That ambiguity is part of the territory.
What Is Regression?
Regression simply means moving attention back toward an earlier experience or state.
In Past Life Regression, the practitioner usually guides you into a deeply relaxed or hypnotic state before inviting you to explore whatever imagery or experience begins to emerge.
This is sometimes described spiritually as accessing:
- The subconscious
- The Higher Self
- Soul memory
- Previous incarnations
- The space between lives
Those concepts belong to spiritual and metaphysical traditions.
They haven’t been scientifically established as literal repositories containing verifiable records of previous incarnations.
You are welcome to work within that spiritual framework.
You are equally welcome to remain curious about what else might be happening.
What Happens During a Past Life Regression?
Your appointment is approximately two and a half hours because this isn’t something we particularly want to rush.
You’ll usually begin with a conversation.
Your practitioner may ask:
- Why you’re interested in regression
- Whether you have particular questions
- Whether there is a theme you’d like to explore
- What you hope to understand
- Your previous experience with hypnosis or meditation
- Relevant health or psychological information
You will then usually lie or sit comfortably while the practitioner guides you into a relaxed, focused state.
From there, you’ll be invited to notice whatever emerges.
Images.
Words.
Sensations.
Emotions.
People.
Places.
Stories.
Nothing needs to arrive on command.
Your practitioner may ask questions to help you explore the experience without needing to decide whether what you’re experiencing is literally historical.
Will I Be Hypnotised?
Past Life Regression commonly uses hypnotic techniques.
Hypnosis is not unconsciousness.
You’re generally aware of what is happening and able to speak, think and respond.
You don’t surrender control to the practitioner.
And despite approximately one hundred years of stage hypnosis doing its best to convince us otherwise, hypnosis does not turn you into a helpless human puppet.
You can stop.
Open your eyes.
Ask a question.
Reject a suggestion.
Or decide you’re finished.
What If I Can’t Be Hypnotised?
People vary enormously in how readily they enter hypnotic states.
You may experience something vivid and immersive.
You may remain very aware of the room.
You may feel as though you’re simply imagining things.
That doesn’t automatically mean you’re “doing it wrong.”
In fact, “I’m pretty sure I’m just making this up” is a very common response to imaginative and hypnotic experiences.
You don’t need to force yourself into some spectacular trance state.
What Might I Experience?
Anything from almost nothing to an extremely elaborate narrative.
People may experience:
- Visual imagery
- Physical sensations
- Emotion
- Memories
- Characters
- Landscapes
- Historical settings
- Relationships
- Symbolic scenes
- Death scenes
- Experiences interpreted as being between lives
- Spiritual imagery
- A strong sense of identity as another person
The experience can feel surprisingly real.
That feeling alone does not establish that the events historically occurred.
Human imagination can be extraordinarily immersive.
Which, depending on your perspective, either explains Past Life Regression or makes the whole thing even more fascinating.
Are Past Lives Real?
Well.
We have reached one of the larger questions.
Reincarnation is an important belief within a number of religious and spiritual traditions.
There are also people who report experiences they interpret as memories of previous lives.
Science has not established Past Life Regression as a reliable method for retrieving objectively verified memories of previous incarnations.
So The Urban Alchemist doesn’t present reincarnation as established medical or scientific fact.
You are allowed to believe in past lives.
You are allowed not to.
You are allowed to have an astonishing regression experience and still have absolutely no idea what you think happened.
Ambiguity will survive.
What If It Feels Completely Real?
It might.
Hypnosis and guided imagery can produce vivid subjective experiences.
You may feel emotion.
Recognise people.
Experience a detailed environment.
Feel completely certain that something happened.
The intensity or realism of an experience does not necessarily prove that it is a historical memory.
That’s particularly important because human memory is reconstructive and can be influenced by expectation, suggestion and imagination.
So we treat what arises with curiosity rather than automatically converting it into biography.
Past Life Regression and False Memories
This deserves its own section.
Hypnosis should not be treated as a reliable method for recovering forgotten factual memories.
People can experience images or narratives during hypnosis that feel deeply convincing without being historically accurate.
For that reason, Past Life Regression should not be used to establish whether:
- Abuse occurred
- A crime occurred
- Another person harmed you
- A particular childhood event happened
- Someone behaved in a specific way
- A historical event involving you actually took place
If something emerges during a regression, it can be explored as an experience.
It should not automatically be treated as evidence.
Vivid is not the same thing as verified.
Past Life Regression and Relationships
Relationships are one of the most common themes people bring to Past Life Regression.
Perhaps you meet somebody and experience immediate familiarity.
Or an intense attraction.
An inexplicable aversion.
A relationship that feels disproportionately powerful.
Within reincarnation-based traditions, people sometimes interpret these relationships through ideas such as:
- Soulmates
- Soul contracts
- Karmic relationships
- Previous incarnations together
- Lessons carried between lives
These can be meaningful spiritual frameworks.
But a regression cannot establish as fact that another person shared a previous incarnation with you.
And a supposed soul contract is not a reason to remain in a harmful relationship.
Ever.
If somebody treats you terribly in this lifetime, you don’t owe them another decade because apparently you were married in Mesopotamia.
Current-life boundaries remain available.
Past Life Regression and Recurring Patterns
One reason people seek regression is the feeling that they keep doing the same thing.
Choosing similar relationships.
Avoiding something.
Fearing something.
Holding themselves back.
Finding themselves in the same emotional territory wearing different trousers.
A regression may create a symbolic narrative through which you explore that pattern.
Perhaps you interpret what emerges as a previous life.
Perhaps the story functions more like a dream.
Either way, the useful question eventually becomes:
What does this illuminate about my life now?
Because this is the incarnation currently requiring your attention.
Past Life Regression and Fear
Some people seek Past Life Regression because of fears or phobias they can’t explain.
A spiritual interpretation might suggest that a fear relates to an experience in another lifetime.
That possibility may be interesting to explore.
But unexplained fears do not prove the existence of a past-life trauma.
Phobias have recognised psychological treatments, and Past Life Regression should not replace appropriate care when fear is significantly affecting your life.
The regression can be an exploration.
It does not need to become the diagnosis.
Past Life Regression and Physical Symptoms
We would not describe recurring pain, illness or an “untreatable” physical condition as evidence of trauma from a previous incarnation.
That is one of the claims from the old version of this page that we’re deliberately leaving behind.
Physical symptoms deserve appropriate assessment.
You are welcome to explore the spiritual meaning you personally associate with illness.
But Past Life Regression should not be used to diagnose why a medical condition exists.
And we would never suggest that somebody remains sick because their soul chose illness, failed to learn a lesson or isn’t sufficiently willing to heal.
Illness is not evidence of spiritual failure.
Past Life Regression and Trauma
Past Life Regression can involve intense imagery or emotion.
If you have significant current-life trauma symptoms, PTSD, dissociation or a complex psychological history, tell your practitioner before booking.
Past Life Regression is not the same as trauma therapy.
If trauma treatment is what you actually need, an appropriately qualified mental health practitioner may be a better starting point.

Past Life Regression and the Higher Self
Some regression traditions work with the idea of a Higher Self, an aspect of consciousness believed to exist beyond the ordinary thinking mind.
During a regression, you may be invited to imagine communicating with this part of yourself or asking it questions.
You might understand whatever emerges as spiritual guidance.
You might understand it as intuition.
Or as another way of allowing your mind to approach a question without immediately analysing it to death.
You get to decide what framework makes sense to you.
What Is Between-Lives Regression?
Some Past Life Regression approaches go beyond individual past-life narratives and explore what practitioners may describe as the space between incarnations.
People may report experiences involving:
- Spirit Guides
- Soul groups
- Life review
- Purpose
- Lessons
- Choosing an incarnation
- Planning aspects of a life
- A sense of returning somewhere familiar
These ideas belong to particular spiritual and regression traditions.
They aren’t scientifically established descriptions of what happens after death.
If this is territory you’re interested in, you’re welcome to explore it as spiritual experience rather than proven cosmology.
Can Past Life Regression Tell Me My Life Purpose?
Perhaps it gives you something interesting to think about.
That’s different from receiving an unquestionable celestial job description.
You may encounter themes during a regression around:
- Creativity
- Relationships
- Service
- Freedom
- Belonging
- Courage
- Voice
- Family
- Love
- Independence
- Spirituality
Those themes may help you reflect on what feels important now.
But you retain responsibility for what you do with them.
Your hypothetical thirteenth-century self does not get executive authority over your current calendar.
Can Past Life Regression Heal Me?
We’d use different language.
A regression may feel:
- Meaningful
- Emotional
- Clarifying
- Cathartic
- Surprising
- Spiritually significant
- Deeply moving
It may shift how you understand yourself or a particular experience.
But we don’t promise that Past Life Regression cures illness, resolves trauma, removes psychological disorders or produces a particular healing outcome.
Sometimes insight changes something.
Sometimes you have a fascinating experience.
Sometimes you’re left with more questions.
All are possible.
Do I Need to Believe in Reincarnation?
No.
In fact, curiosity may be one of the best ways to approach the session.
You can enter with:
Let’s see what happens.
Rather than:
I need this to prove something.
You may leave believing more strongly in reincarnation.
Less strongly.
Exactly the same.
Or extremely interested in why your subconscious apparently has such detailed opinions about being a nineteenth-century fisherman.
No predetermined conclusion is required.
How Should I Prepare?
You don’t need an elaborate spiritual preparation.
Before your appointment:
- Give yourself enough time to arrive without rushing
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Avoid arriving intoxicated or under the influence of recreational drugs
- Bring questions or themes if you have them
- Let the practitioner know about relevant health or psychological concerns
- Try not to spend the previous six hours researching the exact past life you hope to discover
That last one gives your imagination considerably less source material to work with.
Come curious rather than determined.
What Happens After the Session?
Give yourself some space.
Past Life Regression appointments can be long and immersive.
You may want time afterwards to:
- Rest
- Journal
- Walk
- Reflect
- Eat something
- Talk about the experience
- Do absolutely nothing with it yet
You don’t need to decide immediately whether everything you experienced was literally real.
Let it settle.
Sometimes the interesting parts become clearer later.
Frequently Asked Questions About Past Life Regression
Is Past Life Regression hypnosis?
Usually, yes.
Past Life Regression commonly uses hypnosis, guided imagery and deep relaxation to facilitate an immersive inner experience.
Will I lose control?
No.
Hypnosis does not generally involve losing consciousness or surrendering control to the practitioner.
You can communicate and stop the session.
Will I definitely see a past life?
No.
People respond differently.
You may experience vivid imagery, fragments, sensations, emotions, symbolic material or very little at all.
How do I know I’m not making it up?
You may not.
And that’s okay.
Past Life Regression isn’t a scientifically validated method of distinguishing imagination from historical memory.
The experience can still be interesting or meaningful without proving where it came from.
Can Past Life Regression recover memories?
It should not be used to recover or verify factual memories.
Hypnosis can increase confidence in experiences without necessarily increasing their accuracy.
Can it explain my phobia?
A regression may generate imagery or a story you associate with your fear.
That doesn’t establish the cause of the phobia.
Can Past Life Regression diagnose illness?
No.
Physical and psychological health conditions require appropriate assessment.
Can I discover whether somebody was with me in another life?
You may experience a person in your regression whom you associate with someone you know now.
That cannot establish as fact that you shared a previous incarnation.
What if I experience my death?
Death scenes are sometimes reported in Past Life Regression.
Your practitioner can guide you through or away from material that becomes uncomfortable.
You remain able to stop the process.
What if something frightening happens?
Tell your practitioner.
You don’t need to continue exploring imagery that feels overwhelming.
Is Past Life Regression therapy?
Past Life Regression may be personally meaningful, but it should not be confused with evidence-based psychological treatment.
Can I book just because I’m curious?
Absolutely.
You do not need a problem.
“I want to know what happens” is a completely legitimate reason to book.
