Chiropractic and Pregnancy

Chiropractic and Pregnancy

Chiropractic treatment throughout your pregnancy is super safe and can actually be extremely beneficial to mum and Bub.

Our treatment methods are tailored to you, and we have many lovely, gentle ways to get things moving better at every stage of your pregnancy. Our chiropractors have completed extra postgraduate study in caring for pregnant mums and babies, too, and we use a variety of specific, easeful and effective treatment methods to help with

  • pelvic pain
  • lower back pain
  • pain into the vulva or vagina
  • creating ease and relaxation in the womb area and associated ligaments and soft tissues to influence the position of your baby
  • preparation of your body for birth
  • creating a more comfortable pregnancy experience for you and baby.

Maintaining correct pelvic and spinal alignment with chiropractic care throughout pregnancy has been shown to reduce labour time by 24% in first time mothers and 39% in subsequent births.

Many families request chiropractic care for their baby post-birth,  because in some cases, birth can be traumatic, especially when baby doesn’t pass easily through the birth canal or when forceps, vacuum or c-section happens.

Babies respond well to very gentle adjustments, which can be as simple as the pressure of a finger on areas where movement isn’t coming easily to their teeny body.

Some things parents bring their little ones to visit the chiropractor for include

  • poor head turning, resulting in difficulty breastfeeding
  • poor sucking reflex, resulting in difficult breastfeeding
  • poor sleep
  • rigid, uncomfortable body with lots of stretching and crying
  • colic

You can access chiropractic care for yourself or for your baby without a referral, however, lots of mums and bubs are referred to us by their Maternal Child heath nurse, GP, Doula or Midwife.
